The Bellagio is a luxury hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Paradise, Nevada is a census-designated place which is part of Las Vegas Township in Clark County, Nevada. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System, and protected as a National Conservation Area. It is located about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, and visible from the Las Vegas Strip. During the Fall of 2013, I walked from the Bellagio to Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, via Las Vegas Boulevard/Charleston Boulevard, spanning a distance of over 21 miles. The photographs were made to reflect a pedestrian experience one might have while walking from the Bellagio to Red Rocks. Unbiased and neutral are controversial concepts within contemporary photography, however my approach is similar to early Swiss Design, that utilized "objective photography", style characteristics and design elements that were meant to present information clearly (without any of the persuading elements of advertising/propaganda). My intention was to document as much of the peripheral landscape as I could, interventions that were accessible and easily visible from the road.
